I had my money on Six Speed — and for most of that race, it looked like a movie script writing itself. Leading strong, charging down the stretch… and then just like that — gone at the wire. We were THIS close to a $200,000 hit.

But here’s where it gets interesting…

Congratulations to Daisy Phipps on the win. Legacy runs deep. Her grandfather, Ogden Phipps, wasn’t just racing royalty — he was President of both The Jockey Club and the New York Racing Association… and yes, he had history with Buddy Jacobson.

A few months back, I produced a teaser scene with Ogden going off on Buddy — intense, real, old-school racing power dynamics. And now here we are… full circle.

Even crazier — I recently co-authored a Carnegie book… and now a Carnegie legacy wins the Derby while I’m one length away from a life-changing ticket.

From Producer Jay Shapiro: On Sunday April 26, 2026 I was scrolling through my facebook feed and noticed a post with all of the Kentucky Derby horses and the odds.  I am not a horse bettor.  I've tried it a few times not knowing what I was doing.  But when I saw this post I instantly picked my horses: Albus, Intrepido, Litmus Test and Six Speed.  Six speed was actually my first pick; not because of the 50 to one odds, simply based on a feeling! I saw the facebook graphic and my eyes went directly to "Six Speed"  Then I picked the #2,3 and 4 horses just to keep my odds realistic.  I had not done any research on and knew nothing about the horse "Six Speed" until about 4am on April 28th when I decided to google the horse.  I found out that the horse comes from the Brunetti Dugan Stables which was founded by John Brunetti who once owned Hialeah Park. As if this was not fascinating enough I found out that Brunetti stables is connected to Dr. John C. Kimmel the son of Caesar Kimmel and grandson of Manny Kimmel.  The Brunetti and Kimmel legacy are so intertwined with the Jacobs-Bieber / Jacobs syndicate that one could not or would not have existed without the other....
